Pro Tip: Flipping a Stringer

Published On: August 23rd, 2024

One of the advantages of installing wheelchair ramps for Rampit USA is the ability to modify materials while on the job site. For example, if you need to change the orientation of a platform from a straight platform to a left or right turn, or you need to turn down a stringer for a better fit, it can be done easily with just a few steps. This flexibility allows you to adapt the ramp setup to the specific needs of the home, ensuring a better fit and a more customized result.

Flipping a stringer involves removing a few bolts, nuts, and washers, flipping the stringer, and then replacing the bolts. This process changes the stringer’s orientation from a down or up position to the opposite, ensuring that the wheel guard faces in the correct direction.

Following the steps below, you can easily make these adjustments on-site with minimal effort.

  1. To begin, place the platform on a set of sawhorses or a raised surface.
  2. Using a ½” socket or wrench, remove the bolts, nuts, and washers holding the stringer you wish to reorient.
  3. Once the bolts are removed, gently use a dead blow hammer or rubber mallet to remove the stringer from the platform.
  4. Flip the stringer into its new position and gently tap it back into place with the hammer or mallet.
  5. Finally, replace the bolts, nuts, and washers, tightening them securely to complete the process.
